WHY I BUILT THIS

I didn't set out to build an app. I just missed having close friends my own age.
I had plenty of people in my life, but no women friends my age. My career had skewed my friendships young, and the women I'd known had moved away, retired in other states, gone back to other countries.
So I did what anyone does: I looked for an app. What I found was that friendship in this country is treated as an afterthought. The apps that existed ran on dating algorithms, the wrong tool for the job, and were built for people in their twenties or thirties. Nothing felt like a place to simply be myself.
Then I stumbled onto research that changed everything.
Harvard had followed thousands of people for eighty years to answer one question: what makes a long, happy life? It turned out not to be diet or exercise or even good genes. It was relationships.
I kept reading. Strong friendships don't just make us happier, they protect our hearts, sharpen our minds, and help us live longer. And more than a third of women over fifty feel regularly disconnected from meaningful relationships.
I started talking to other women. They felt the same way: friendships that had shifted or disappeared, lives that had changed. Not loneliness, exactly. Recognition that something essential had quietly gone missing
So I decided to build the simple, thoughtful thing I couldn't find. Not because connection is nice to have, but because it's one of the most powerful tools we have for aging well.

WHY WE CALL IT KAFFEEKLATSCH
It's not really about the coffee.
I was born and raised in Germany, where Kaffeeklatsch means an informal gathering over coffee, where the conversation is unhurried and the company feels like comfort.
The tradition travels. A cuppa in Britain, a cafecito in Latin America, tea and stories in the Middle East. The drinks change. The feeling doesn't.
That's what the app is named for. Not the coffee, but the company, the conversation, and the quiet reminder that friendship still has a place.
